Renewable Energy: Complying with Arlington County & LEED version 4.1 Requirements (CE)
April 23

Offered by Arlington County’s Office of Sustainability and Environmental Management

Free. Virtual.
1.5 AIA LU|HSW; 1.5 GBCI

As the demand for renewable energy grows, so do the options for implementation. This is good news for building owners and developers, but how do you determine which option is best for your project?

This seminar will discuss the new renewable energy requirement within Arlington County Virginia’s updated Green Building Incentive Policy – an incentive-based program that encourages private developers to reduce energy use and greenhouse gas emissions in new construction projects. The program offers bonus density in exchange for new developments that commit to specific sustainability criteria.

To help developers navigate the renewable energy requirement, a panel of energy and policy experts will summarize the different options for compliance and list the costs and benefits of each. The presentation will include a discussion on the programs that influenced the requirement, such as LEED V4.1, highlight some of the compliance alternatives, such as offsite renewables and Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs), and will showcase a local project that is currently installing solar photovoltaics (PV) on their building.

1. Review Arlington County VA’s Green Building Incentive Policy.
2. Learn about the specific renewable energy requirement, the options for compliance, and the cost/benefits of each.
3. Understand the LEED V4.1 compliance pathway.
4. Learn about the alternative pathways to implementation, such as offsite renewables and Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs).
5. Review a real-world example of how renewables are being incorporated into a new construction project in Arlington.
