It's a great way to meet people outside of your own architecture circle, in a short amount of time. This event is October 28, 6:00p, at Dewberry in Fairfax. Registration is required by October 16. |

Tidewater Community College, Norfolk Campus, New Student Center
Ballou Justice Upton Architects in association with Cannon Design
Norfolk, VA |
The new Student Services Center at Tidewater Community College's downtown Norfolk campus innovatively develops a constricted urban site while preserving an existing pedestrian plaza and gardens. Brick and precast stone cladding and traditional fenestration on the building's east and west ends complement the surrounding urban fabric, while a swooping, transparent north façade engages the plaza and showcases the hub of student activity concentrated at the building's center. Several balconies further enhance the interplay between building and plaza.
The five-story building features ground-level dining and café; a student lounge with adjacent study areas; childcare; office suites for career center, tutoring and student organizations; a game room; fitness facilities with shower and locker rooms; and, on the top floor, a subdividable multipurpose event space with pantry and adjoining balcony. Featuring a variety of seating walls, steps and outdoor dining tables, the lively, attractive plaza supports multiple activities including small study groups, impromptu presentations, large gatherings and displays of student projects and artwork. Flow-through planters containing native species treat storm water runoff while showcasing the natural beauty of regional ecosystems. Please join us for a tour of Cannon Design on October 15. See the announcement above.
