ARE Prep Series Underway
Organized by our Young Architects Forum, the series features study sessions for all sections of the exam and our very popular Structural Systems review with Professor David Thaddeus, AIA. We have added to our list of Supplemental Courses this year, covering topics found throughout the exams, like architectural history, accessibility and acoustics, and can provide continuing education hours for architects who want to brush up on these subjects. Visit our ARE page for details.

Canstruction® Call for Entries
We encourage you to enter a team in our 9th annual Canstruction design/build competition and help those in need. So form a team at your firm or partner with another firm, download the Call for Entries and join us for a friendly competition to benefit the Arlington Food Assistance Center. Build-out night is April 20. Visit our Canstruction page.

Alexandria Police Headquarters
Dewberry + HDR
Alexandria, Virginia

The City of Alexandria recently opened a new four-story police headquarters, designed to consolidate operations from three buildings into an efficient, centralized location. At the November dedication, the facility was called "an iconic building" by Mayor Bill Euille, and a "modern, world-class facility" by Acting City Manager Bruce Johnson.

The new building accommodates 500 law enforcement and emergency communications personnel. Plans emphasize security and functionality, while encouraging community access. Public meeting space is available adjacent to the atrium lobby, while other levels house the Patrol Operations Bureau, an advanced criminal investigations lab and a new emergency communications center.

Dewberry led architectural design services through schematic design for the base building, and provided complete design services for the lobby and public spaces, as well as civil engineering. HDR served as architect-of-record and provided mechanical/electrical and structural engineering services. Additional team members included Rhodeside & Harwell, landscape architecture, and Whiting-Turner Contracting Company, general contractor.
