Canstruction®
Canstruction® is an international design competition that invites teams of designers to create structures using canned food. The AIA Northern Virginia competition takes place in April each year at Ballston Common Mall in Arlington. The creations are on display at the Mall as part of Architecture Week before they are taken down and the cans donated to the Arlington Food Assistance Center (AFAC). In recent years, AIA Northern Virginia's Canstruction® competition has become one of AFAC's top annual donors.

Oranges + LemonsWinners of the AIA Northern Virginia competition are invited to participate in the annual International competition, where our own Samaha Associates took the top overall prize in 2011 with their project "ORANGE you glad you CAN help e-LEMON-ate hunger?"

As always, special thanks go to Ballston Common Mall and the Rock Bottom Restaurant & Brewery for their help hosting the event.

Think you have what it takes to design and build a structure made of nothing more than canned food, ingenuity and a little luck? Please consider entering a team in 2012. Watch for our Call for Entries. Get creative, help stop hunger, one can.
