New Chapter Bylaws Available for Review
AIA Northern Virginia is in the process of adopting new bylaws based on the National AIA’s model bylaws. This will guarantee we are in compliance with new IRS requirements and state laws, as well as coordinate with the National AIA bylaws and reflect current Chapter practices. The Chapter membership will vote on the adoption of the bylaws at the October 30 Annual Dinner, held at the Crystal City Sports Pub in Arlington.
The bylaws draft has been reviewed and approved by the National AIA legal department and the AIA Northern Virginia Chapter Board.
We offer members the opportunity to review and comment on the proposed bylaws, which are available for initial review on our website through October 5. Comments and questions should be directed to Chapter President Valerie Hassett, AIA at valerie@aianova.org.
With approved changes incorporated into the bylaws, the final draft will be available on the website for review from October 13 until October 16. Then the Chapter membership present at the Annual Dinner on October 30 will vote to approve the proposed bylaws by a simple yes or no vote without further discussion at the event. So be sure to send all your comments and questions to Valerie by October 16.
If desired, the proposed bylaws can be mailed to any member by phone request to the Chapter office at (703) 549-9747.
Your participation in the governing process of the Chapter is very important. Please take a few minutes to review the bylaws and plan to attend the Annual Dinner. We wish to express our thanks to the Bylaws Task Force: Marlene Walli Shade AIA, Valarie Hassett AIA, and Al Cox AIA. This is an enormous undertaking and we appreciate all the time and effort they put into this task.
