Each year the AIA Northern Virginia Young Architects Forum organizes seminars for those preparing to take the Architect Registration Exam (ARE). The seminars offer the opportunity to learn from a professional in each discipline and use that knowledge in preparation for the ARE. The calendar for the 2013 ARE Prep Series follows:

Cost is $35 for members, $50 for non-members per seminar. Cost includes lunch and study materials. Registration is required one week prior to each seminar; please download and complete the registration form here and fax, scan and email, or mail it back to the Chapter House. Online payments can be made here for members and non-members using Paypal. A Paypal account is NOT required to pay for the seminars, only a credit card.

This spring, YAF continues its series of supplemental courses Wednesday nights. Supplemental courses are $20 for members, $25 for non-members. The schedule of these courses is:

AIA Northern Virginia is pleased to welcome back David Thaddeus, AIA for a three-day intensive seminar covering Structural Systems, April 5-7, 2013, however registration is currently full. To be added to the waitlist, please email reservations@aianova.org.

We are also pleased to announce that we will hold a weekend seminar on Building Systems, taught by Michael Ermann, a tenured associate professor at Virginia Tech's School of Architecture + Design. Michael teaches environmental building systems, design studio and architectural acoustics and has authored The Amber Book, a guide to the ARE Building Systems Exam. The workshop will be held May 10-12, but registration is full for this seminar as well. To be added to the waitlist, please email reservations@aianova.org.

ARE study materials by Kaplan Educational Resources.

Kaplan's ARE materials, including study guides, question and answer books, practice vignettes, and flash cards, are available to be checked out free of charge from the Chapter House by Chapter members. The library also includes ArchiFlash cards and copies of Solutions: Understanding the Graphic Divisions of the Architects Exam by Norman Dorf.
